Do It Today
“Today is the oldest you’ve ever been and the youngest you’ll ever be again.”
I came across this quote recently, and it stayed in my head. The meaning is simple: time only moves in one direction.Today, you are older than you have ever been — but at the same time, you are younger than you will ever be again.
And somehow, that connects perfectly with tattooing. After years of working as a tattoo artist, I’ve heard the same sentences hundreds of times:
“I’ve been thinking about this tattoo for years.”
“I always wanted to get one.”
“Maybe next summer.”
“When I lose weight.”
“When I have more time.”
“When I’m ready.”

Of course, a tattoo deserves thought. It is permanent, and you should choose your artist and your idea carefully.
But there is a difference between thinking carefully and waiting forever.
Sometimes we spend so much time waiting for the perfect moment that the moment never arrives.
Your body changes. Your life changes. People come and go. We get older. Experiences become memories.
That is also why tattoos are so powerful.
A tattoo can mark exactly where you are in your life today.
It might represent someone you love, somewhere you have been, something you survived, a new chapter, an old memory — or simply a piece of artwork that makes you happy.
Not every tattoo needs a dramatic story behind it either.
Sometimes the reason can simply be:
“I wanted it.”
And that is enough.

Ten years from now, the tattoo may remind you not only of the design itself, but of the person you were when you decided to get it.
So maybe the lesson isn’t “make reckless decisions today.”
It’s something much simpler:
Stop waiting for life to begin.
Take the photograph.
Book the trip.
Tell someone you love them.
Start the project.
Change direction.
Get the tattoo you’ve been talking about for five years.
Because there will always be another excuse to wait until tomorrow.
But there will never be another today.
DO IT TODAY.
Don’t overthink your whole life away.
